About the event
The “Battle for the Crown” is a celebration of Coach Steve Smith’s legendary influence on high school basketball, bringing together Oak Hill Academy, a program known for producing NBA stars like Kevin Durant and Carmelo Anthony. The tournament will showcase local talent and demonstrate the powerful legacy of Coach Smith, while reinforcing the city’s basketball pedigree.
Charlotte,
a city celebrated for its vibrant basketball culture and top-tier talent, will host the inaugural “Battle for the Crown” Steve Smith Classic. This tournament honors Coach Steve Smith’s monumental impact and the numerous Charlotte natives he’s mentored, many of whom achieved stardom, including Jeff McInnis, Corey Baker, Jr Burrow, Carlos Cofield, Tavares Johnson,Justin gray, Shelton Mitchell, Sindarius Thornwell,Kc rivers, Tyler Lewis, Brett Carey, Cody and Caleb Martin, Dion Dacons, Antwan Robinson Caleb Foster and BJ Mack.
